At 1 carat, natural diamonds average around $3,135 while comparable lab grown stones run around $543, making natural stones roughly 5.8 times more expensive at that size. That gap widens with carat weight: at 2 carats, natural diamonds average around $14,325 versus $1,222 for lab grown, a difference of about 11.7 times.Shape moves prices more than most buyers expect. At 1 carat, Marquise cut natural diamonds are the most expensive while Asscher cuts are the most affordable, a gap of over 57% for the same carat weight. Carat size itself scales steeply: a 2 carat natural diamond costs nearly 4.6 times more than a comparable 1 carat stone, not just twice. Lab grown prices dropped around 15.1% over the past 6 months while natural prices remained relatively stable.
